Alissa Baker is joining us as secretary at St Paul. Alissa lives with her husband, Jesse (who serves as pastor at Zion in Hardwick), their son Kalan, and their puppy. In her free time she enjoys listening to audio books, watching TV/movies and decorating cakes. She has a passion for international missions and loves singing. Her favorite hymn is 941, We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God. Feel free to stop by the church office to introduce yourself or to chat! She will be here Wednesdays through Fridays from 9am - 3pm.

I was born and raised in Yankton, South Dakota until I moved to St. Paul, Minnesota for college. I have three siblings, two older sisters and a younger brother; and have been blessed with seven wonderful nieces and nephews. All of my immediate family are in the medical field, so I guess you could call me the black sheep of the family. Most of my family still lives in South Dakota and we enjoy family gatherings with our extended family often.

Growing up I enjoyed competitive swimming, volleyball, track and field, singing and dancing, and acting in plays and musicals. In my spare time I like to read, be in the outdoors, do puzzles, and bake!

My husband, Caleb, and I met when we were in college at Concordia St. Paul. Caleb is a craftsman and has worked for companies that build custom cabinets, residential construction, and set building. He was raised in Wisconsin but, despite his hometown, is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. We were married in the summer of 2017 and have enjoyed living in three different states in the years that followed.

In November 2020, we welcomed our first daughter, Amelia into our family. In August 2022, we welcomed our second daughter, Eleanor into our family.

We have been so blessed by the congregations we have served so far in ministry and are excited to serve St. Paul and see what God has in store for us in Pipestone!

Rev. Christopher Amen, Pastor

Pastor Amen moved to Pipestone to serve at St. Paul in November 2020. He graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin with a degree in Theological Languages and Youth Ministry in 2006. During those years he served his summers working as Counselor and Program Staff at Camp CILCA in central IL and Camp Luther in north Wisconsin. He then attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN receiving a Master of Divinity in 2010. During seminary he served a summer vicarage in Huron, SD and full-year vicarage in Shorewood, WI along with the campus ministry at UW-Milwaukee. He has served congregations in Carson City, NV and Arlington, WI before coming to Pipestone. Over the years mission trips and services have been a passion, serving and leading teams after hurricanes, fires, and flooding in the US, in addition to mission trips and travels to Peru and China.

Pastor Amen and his wife, Becky, met while serving on staff at Camp Luther (WI). Becky attended Concordia University Ann Arbor, MI receiving a degree in English and Lutheran Education as a licensed teacher. They are blessed with 5 children: Zachary, Matthias, Lydia, Laura, and Malachi who are homeschooled with a classical Lutheran education model. The family enjoys the outdoors, camping, hiking, sports, and traveling to historical sites.

Pastor is an avid sports fan from the various places he has lived and where family is from, including the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Dallas Stars while supporting now the Pipestone Arrows.

The congregation has operated a Preschool since 1989. We are blessed by a dedicated teacher, Shelly Tuinstra, and teacher aids Rose Sorensen and Trinidad Garcia. We are thankful for an exceptional Preschool Board that oversees its operation.

Many students who attended St. Paul Preschool at its very beginning are now sending their children to our preschool. What a testimony, from its beginning until now, to the excellence of the education and the Christ-centered teaching provided by our teacher, aids, and staff at St. Paul Preschool.
